Rural mobility & sustainability: how can carpooling be part of the solution?

21097.4 MixMyRide festival du film vert

The “Festival du Film Vert” (Green Movie Festival) is dedicated to ecology and environmental themes. Over the years, it has evolved into a must-attend event for all those interested in the transition to a more sustainably society.

Francesca Cellina, a senior researcher at SUPSI-ISAAC and Project Manager of the MixMyRide project, was invited to provide commentary on the documentary ‘Virage vers le futur,’ which explores alternative solutions to reduce the solo-use of private cars. Solutions such as car-sharing, public transport, and active mobility, can also be relevant transport alternatives in rural contexts. She took the opportunity to discuss carpooling, particularly highlighting MixMyRide, a platform that connects individuals and leverages carpooling to enhance accessibility to public transport. Thanks to this type of solution, it may one day be possible to move around the Lugano region without owning a car.
