The ZHAW communication office just published a press release (in German) about the MixMyRide research project and all the benefits brought about by app use. Among them, you can count on the intermodal trip planner that uses artificial intelligence algorithms to identify the best suitable journeys for your needs. The trip planner considers various modes of transportation for the desired journey and determines optimal combinations of route segments based on available mobility services, including carpooling, walking and cycling routes – either with private bicycles or bike sharing – as well as shared e-scooters. If a carpooling option is found, MixMyRide also enables to book and organise the ride, by creating a direct communication channel between people seeking and offering rides. As explained by Uros Tomic from the ZHAW Institute of Sustainable Development, "the testing phase allows us to evaluate the potential for behavioral change through MixMyRide and estimate any impacts on overall energy consumption and CO2 emissions."
MixMyRide can be freely downloaded from the Apple and Play Store and will be available throughout the one year trial running up until the end of February 2024.
