‘Corriere del Ticino’ talks about MixMyRide and carpooling

Sunday 2nd of July, ‘La Domenica’ – the weekly magazine published by the local newspaper ‘Corriere del Ticino’ – wrote about MixMyRide and the main challenges of carpooling.

Around 70’000 commuters enter every day in Ticino and only 13% of the vehicles have more than 1.1 person inside. Carpooling appears as a relevant solution to reduce traffic congestion and CO2 emissions. This is the bet made by MixMyRide: build multimodal mobility solutions around carpooling. Deployed over the Geneve, Winterthur-Zurich and Lugano areas, MixMyRide proposes an intermodal trip planner and Mobility-as-a-Service tool that also includes the possibility to search and offer carpooling rides.

As emphasized in the article, the primary challenge is to engage a sufficient number of users who will actively use the application. The practice of carpooling was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and it requires promotion to regain pre-pandemic levels of use.

If you want to know more about the viewpoint by project partner Mirko Baruffini (BePooler) and Francesca Cellina (SUPSI), please read the complete article here (in Italian).
